Therefore, knowing your dere type could explain why you are shy, or straight-up weird around your crush.
Our dere quiz consists of 20 anime-infused personality questions. The quiz sticks to the point and doesn’t stray away from it. What Is Dere?
Did someone ask you what your dere is, and you were profoundly confused? Not only did you not know your type, there’s a good chance you didn’t know what dere is.
Dere is an anime-related term describing how different characters react after being lovestruck. When being lovey-dovey, some characters get arrogant or distant, while others get shy or flirtatious. Their behavior can be easily interpreted and described with one of the various dere types. The question is, which one are you?
What Dere Types Are There
A person’s dere type can reveal a lot about them. There are countless types, but we will focus on the five main ones. If you want to get a good grasp on the entire terminology, we can’t recommend Dere Types Fandom enough.
Dandere
Dandere types are deserved and shy. They are afraid to talk and struggle to communicate unless absolutely necessary. Their shyness reduces when surrounded by friends but increases around unfamiliar faces. Unlike kuuderes, they get nervous when required to speak due to insecurities.
While desiring true friendships or romance, they are sensitive toward criticism and often feel inferior. Moreover, they may attempt to disappear into the background when embarrassed. Hinata Hyouga is the perfect example of a Dandere type.
Deredere
Deredere characters stand out with their remarkable kindness and easy-going nature. They epitomize love, often showing unrestricted affection towards their love interest. If their beloved chooses someone else, they hold no resentment or jealousy. As long as the one they love is happy and unharmed, a Deredere can accept any outcome.
Some are open-hearted about expressing love while others may be shy or hesitant. Regardless, they don’t mind showering their object of affection with cozy cuddles or playful flirting at any given moment. Some of the most popular Deredere characters are Soma Yukihira and Chika Fujiwara.
Kuudere
Kuudere characters are cold, blunt, and stoic. They are monotonous and seemingly unaffected by the world. However, beneath this frosty veneer hides a caring nature that only reveals itself to those they genuinely care about. Kuuderes are sharp-witted yet reluctant leaders. They maintain composure even in challenging situations.
Kuuderes choose silence over idle chatter, expressing themselves minimally but effectively. Due to their solitude, they are often misunderstood about desiring companionship or affection. Some of the most popular Kuudere characters are Boa Hancock from One Piece, and Annie Leonhardt from Attack on Titan.
Tsundere
Tsundere characters are driven by pride and a refusal to acknowledge their existing feelings for someone else outright. Instead, they opt for dismissive phrases like “It’s not like I did X because I like you or anything!”. This behavior is typically an attempt to protect their ego. That said, their actions speak volumes more than their words.
While some may come from positions of power, many Tsunderes don’t have a clear cause for their inflated self-image. They are misinterpreted as ‘playing hard to get’. These characters genuinely struggle to express their emotions due to an underlying fear of damaging their pride. Erina Nakiri from Shokugeki no Soma is a perfect example of Tsundere.

Yandere
People with the Yandere archetype behave in unconventional ways. Once they fall in love, or get a crush on someone, their feelings are so strong they lead to excessive obsession. In darker narratives, this obsession leads to tragic ends. For instance, harming their object of infatuation or even themselves.
On the other hand, they can also serve to inject drama into romantic plots by emphasizing their undying devotion. Their seemingly harmless ‘deredere’ facade could easily sway into a ‘yanderu’ state. There are many types of Yandere, like Mugaigata (harmless), Izongata (dependent), and many more. Himiko Toga from MHA is a great example of Yandere personality.
Now that you know a bit more about the five main types, it’s time to take the quiz and find your dere.
