Vash the Stampede

Vash is a character torn between contrasting personalities. On one hand, he exudes an eccentric vibe. He uses foolery and kindness to hide his true identity and his pain from people. He loves doughnuts, plays with children, helps adults, and frequently uses the catchphrase “This world is made of love and peace.”

On the other hand, Vash is beset by loneliness, depression, and melancholy due to loss and betrayal in his long life. Despite this significant hardship, Vash chooses hope over despair. Even against those who mean him harm. This shows how he refuses to kill his enemies at all costs.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood

Wolfwood is essentially good but forced into nefarious deeds. While priests usually help people, Wolfwood kills them. He has an unwavering dedication to his grim realism that leads him to disregard the concept of redemption. His cold exterior and pessimistic outlook on humanity don’t leave a lot of space for others. However, he does have individuals he cherishes and would risk anything for.

He is physically imposing with a tall, broad-shouldered physique and black hair contrasting striking dark blue eyes. He is regarded as an exceptional gunslinger in No Man’s Land with a unique weapon ‘ the Punisher Cross’ symbolizing his sins. His abilities are further amplified by experimental enhancements including automatic healing and increased sensory prowess, at the cost of accelerated aging.

Legato Bluesummers

Legato is a sadistic nihilist who aids Knives in his quest to annihilate humanity. He takes pleasure in manipulating Vash, even going so far as to attach Vash’s severed arm to himself and taunt him with it. Using the Gung-Ho-Guns, he forces Vash into deadly encounters but never manages to kill him.

The climax of their interaction comes when Legato compels Vash to take his life leaving a lasting scar on Vash. Legato exhibits telepathic and psychokinetic abilities. They allow him to control people’s actions against their will.

Meryl

Meryl is a petite 23-year-old woman. She boasts short dark hair with a blue tint to match her clothing. Her style hasn’t changed much over her time in the Bernardelli Company, except for her hair growing slightly longer.

Her fiery independence and sharp wit often clash with the absurdity she encounters while tracking Vash the Stampede. Initially skeptical of Vash’s reputation, Meryl’s dedication to her job sees her through many challenges alongside her partner Milly. She grudgingly develops respect and unconfessed love for Vash whilst sharing a similar pacifist stance.

Knives

Knives is a tall, blond-haired man with blue eyes. He is usually seen in his distinctive white and blue attire that changes to red, white, and gold after certain incidents. He harbors resentment towards humans due to earlier abuses from a crewmember named Steve. He turns hostile, psychopathic, and sadistically cruel over time. He deploys drastic measures like altering spaceship courses to rid the world of human existence.

His hatred for humans aside, Knives maintains an oddly caring relationship with his brother Vash. He is consistently persuading him to join his violent cause against humanity. Lastly, under the thick layer of malevolence lies a suppressed affection for Rem.
